# **Job Summary**
This position is designated as part-time day shift and is scheduled to work every third weekend. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per two-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. The position is eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits. A correctional health care nurse practices in a primary care setting much like a clinic or transitional care unit. The Corrections' nurse is presented with opportunities to use a full battery of nursing skills along with broad knowledge of disease processes. The nurse works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners. The Corrections' nurse ensures that offenders receive needed health care in a manner that does not compromise nor conflict with security issues within the correctional facility.
This position assists in the provision of offender health care; assists in the medication process; assists with other functions as delegated by the charge nurse/supervisor; maintains a system for accurate and thorough medical record keeping; provides health education; and maintains adequate inventory and security of medical supplies and equipment.
This position has direct contact with offenders.
## **Minimum Qualifications:**

To qualify, you must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota, and have a license that is current, active and without restrictions, limitations or conditions.

**-**Skills in and ability to produce accurate and timely clinical documentation.
* Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse populations, including management, coworkers and offenders.
* Ability to respond to medical emergencies.
* Ability to work independently and without close supervision.
## **Preferred Qualifications:**
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seekingconsideration for this position:
* Completion of a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
* One or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
* Clinical nursing experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the past five years.
* Nursing experience in a correctional or secured setting.
* Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
* Nursing experience in a specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
## **Physical Requirements**
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a drug test, tuberculosis screening, and/or respirator clearance. For a copy of the Physical Demands Analysis, please contact Carol Morse

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
